Ladle Turret

In the continuous casting process of a modern steelmaking plant, the Ladle Turret is a pivotal piece of equipment. Its function is to receive, hold, and precisely position large ladles containing molten steel (at temperatures exceeding 1500°C) above the continuous casting machine's tundish. The turret must rotate to switch between an "active" ladle being emptied and a "standby" full ladle with minimal interruption to the casting process. The slewing bearing at the core of the turret is therefore operating in one of the most thermally hostile and safety-critical environments in heavy industry.

The challenges for a ladle turret slewing bearing are extreme: intense radiant and conducted heat from the molten steel, potential for spillage of molten slag or steel (thermal shock), and the need to support two ladles weighing several hundred tons each, often in an asymmetric load condition during rotation. Luoyang MC Bearing designs specialized slewing rings for this application with a focus on heat resistance and structural integrity. They often use heat-treated alloy steels that retain their mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. Key design features can include integrated heat shields or protective covers, special labyrinth seals to prevent ingress of dust and oxide scale while allowing for thermal expansion, and lubrication systems filled with high-temperature grease. The bearing must maintain extremely smooth and reliable rotation to ensure precise alignment of the ladle shroud with the tundish, as any misalignment can lead to air entrapment in the steel, causing quality defects. Reliability is paramount, as a bearing failure could result in a catastrophic spill of molten metal.

MC Bearing addresses the intense thermal demands with their Ladle Turret High-Temperature Slewing Bearing. For applications with extreme asymmetric loading during rotation, their Heavy-Duty Three-Row Roller Slewing Bearing provides the necessary stability and load-sharing capability.
