Wind Power

In wind turbines, slewing bearings are found in two critical locations: the yaw system at the junction between the nacelle and the tower, and the pitch system at the root of each blade. The yaw bearing allows the entire nacelle (housing the generator, gearbox, etc.) to rotate to face the wind. Each pitch bearing enables the individual blade to rotate along its longitudinal axis to adjust its angle of attack, optimizing power output and protecting the turbine during high winds.

These bearings operate under extremely challenging conditions: continuous exposure to the elements (temperature extremes, humidity, salt spray offshore), variable and complex loading from wind gusts and gravitational forces, and the necessity for absolute reliability in often remote and inaccessible locations. Maintenance is costly and difficult. For yaw systems, Luoyang MC Bearing provides large-diameter single-row ball slewing bearings with integrated gear teeth. They are designed with special corrosion protection (e.g., zinc or epoxy coatings) and multi-lip seals to withstand decades of weather. For pitch systems, single-row four-point contact ball bearings or double-row ball bearings are standard. These are more compact but must endure even harsher cyclic bending moments from the blade. They require exceptionally precise control of internal clearance to ensure smooth pitching action without backlash. All wind power bearings feature optimized raceway geometry and high-quality steel to prevent premature fatigue (white etching cracks) and are designed for long-term, maintenance-interval lubrication.

MC Bearing is a trusted partner in renewable energy, offering the Wind Turbine Yaw Slewing Bearing for nacelle positioning and the precision Wind Turbine Pitch Slewing Bearing for critical blade angle control.
